On this retreat we put the MEDITATION BACK IN YOGA! The ultimate goal of Yoga is to go beyond our conditioning and self-imposed roles, beyond likes and dislikes, and rest in a natural state of awareness that lies deep within us all. This is our pure nature, where we experience the BLISS OF BEING.

Explore YOGIC & BUDDHIST MINDFULNESS through the practices of Mindful Hatha Flow, Elemental Yin Yoga, Calligraphy Yoga (Qigong, Tai Chi & Indian Yoga) moving through a seamless ‘moving meditation’. Finally resting into the complete STILLNESS of Silent Meditation, deep surrender and letting go. Cultivate awareness, strong mental focus, and embodied presence. Establish a firm foundation in the mind-body connection, gain clarity and insight, and restore your internal balance.

Discover the transformative healing effects of SACRED SOUND MEDITATION to ultimately discover the ‘silence of sound’. SOUND is one of the most powerful tools to release stress, remove emotional blocks, shift consciousness and activate self-healing mechanisms in the body. Immerse in an ocean of harmonious vibrations of Tibetan Singing Bowls, German Paiste & Planetary Gongs, Chinese Chau Gongs, Rattles, Buffalo Drums, Steel Tongue Drum and more!

Are you ready to sit with yourself in silence and sound to uncover the deep stillness that lies within?

Morning sunrise begins with Grounding Meditation practice leading into energising Hatha Yoga to cultivate mindful awareness, strengthen, open and cleanse the body. Followed by deep Pranayama to access the subtle body, and SEATED SILENT MEDITATION to refine attention and purify the mind. We apply Calm Abiding ‘Shamatha’ Meditation focusing on the breath, thoughts or sound, and Loving Kindness ‘Metta’, we ultimately quiet and focus the mind. SILENCE ‘mauna’ is honoured upon waking until the end of breakfast, a wonderful way to allow for more present moment awareness and a deeper insight into one’s essential nature. Some evenings will also be included.

Afternoons are more YIN in nature stimulating the meridians (energy channels) from the Chinese Taoist system, increasing receptivity, promoting blood and digestive circulation, affecting organ health and the fascial network. Combining powerful YOGA & SOUND MEDICINE or deep relaxation methods of Body Scan Meditation and Yoga Nidra. Relax to the harmonics of Hapi, Koshi, Crystal Bowls or Gongs in extended final Savasana. One whole session will be set to the soundscape journey of Tibetan Singing Bowls, Meridian Tuning Forks, and Gongs, providing a synthesis of harmonious resonance for growth, deep healing and transformation physically, mentally and emotionally.

Investigate the mind-body network in a special YOGIC MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP, and its importance for well-being. Core insights from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras (2000y old foundational text on Yoga) offer a profound perspective on the functioning of the nature of our mind and gives us methods to reduce negative patterns and stress, and bring emotional balance and calm.

The retreat culminates in a NEW MOON CEREMONY to set intention and invite inner peace. Let go of anything that may no longer serve you with a SHAMANIC CLEANSING and immerse in an ocean of harmonious sounds in a Sacred Sound Bath.

You also ‘meditate into Light’ with the AJNA LIGHT, an innovative device that easily and rapidly brings the user into a deeply relaxed, meditative state. Fully Certified by Chiang Mai University and appearing at Mind Body Spirit Festivals in Australia for its excellent results. Using very powerful photic light stimulation to induce the same brainwaves states seen in advanced meditation

*This retreat is your perfect opportunity to experience longer periods of meditation 30-45mins. You do not have to be an experienced meditator! If the body has limitations there is the option of choosing to sit on a fold up chair if you so wish. What matters is that you are relaxed enough to be able to experience peace and tranquillity and you will probably be surprised at how fast the time passes!

LOCATION

The retreat is set in the beautiful paradise island of Koh Yao Noi, in Phang Nga Bay, near Krabi and Phuket. The natural beauty of its many sandy beaches with superb views of the towering limestone rocks of the bay along the east side, and the mangrove forests, pine trees and rice fields on the West, provides the perfect sanctuary for in depth practice and solitude. Island Yoga Retreat is situated on the east of the island by the beach and the mangroves where you can welcome the sunrise. The delightful shala provides a safe and nurturing space to dive deeper into practice.

MYSTICAL MANGROVES

Kayak the tranquil waterways of Ao Tha Lane. The mangroves are a naturalist’s wonderland: silently gliding through this secret utopia, you will discover an abundance of wildlife including troops of monkeys, flying fish, eagles and owls, giant butterflies and giant lizards! The caves, stalactite formations and primeval lagoons hidden within the mangroves are truly stunning. We stop at Koh Pak Bia on the journey home to picnic, swim and snorkel around this perfect “castaway” island.

ISLAND HOPPING

Take a long tail boat for an island hopping extravaganza around the limestone towers and lagoons of the Phang Nga bay. This world famous marine national park is home to many of Thailand’s “bird nesting” sites where locals collect Swallows nests to make the renowned bird nest soup. We will usually visit 3 islands where you can explore primordial lagoons hidden within the limestone karsts plus you will get the chance to snorkel and swim directly off the boat. Our final stop is to a pristine beach for more swimming, picnicking, beachcombing and tropical island discovery.
