Gong Meditation

Gongs have served many purposes since ancient times, including ceremonial instruments, orchestras, temple bells and Shamanic healing aids. Gongs are primarily used for deep relaxation where people lie on their backs effortlessly and receive the sound through the ears as well as vibrations through the body. Singing bowls however are more directly for healing.

The gong heals the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and digest response. It soothes and melts away stress and anxiety. As the sound resonates the energy system is cleansed so that emotional blockages are released from the subconscious mind. It brings you back to your centre, to stillness, presence and peace. The varying tones of the gong lets you float on the current of the overtones and undertones without any melody, so the process is more organic. It is less rational for the mind, thereby dropping you into very deep meditative states.

The Gong’s complex overtones are influenced by the nature of the stroke, intensity of the volume, the pace and mallet that is used. Various sound mixtures can be extracted contained in the gong’s sound sphere. A Gong Healer plays the gong by intuition so that the gong is actually playing them.

Symphonic Paiste Gong

The Paiste Symphonic Gong is one of Paiste’s classics. The Symphonic are flat gongs with a slightly raised surface. It produces a harmonic and universal sound structure, the fundamental note of the gong being balanced with the complex overtones. ‘Symphonic’ means to unite and experience “sound in its entirety”.

Paiste is the industry leader in Gong making. Made from raw materials using several alloys, by talented specialized craftsmen.

Chau Gongs

The Chau Gong is Chinese, sometimes called a Bullseye Gong, with a black outer edge and black centre. They are lathed in the mid-section to expose the shiny bronze.
