Private Yoga sessions are the most effective way to address your goals, work on areas of individual interest and to empower you with a practice fully tailored to your needs. It gives you the perfect opportunity to accelerate your learning experience, prevent injuries and deepen your personal practice. Gain confidence, work at your own pace and understand your body with safe and effective alignment that is the most beneficial for you.

Yoga was traditionally transmitted one-on-one where practices were given specifically for the individual student with a purpose of bringing about change. This in essence is the true application of yoga to meet the needs of the student at any given moment and works towards a state of wholeness in an intelligent way.

Everybody is different physically, the mind, diet, lifestyle, occupation, age, flexibility, strength, and time availability. This makes yoga an individual practice. We can spend years attending yoga classes to gain the amount of self-awareness and personal attention we will receive in a private session. A group class, although very beneficial, can often not provide a person with a fully optimal practice. Further more, it may even create further imbalances to an already existing health problem if the student isn’t aware. Private sessions will enhance your regular classes, and will also motivate you to practice at home.

Why get personal instruction?

Each session works towards a specific goal through personalized instruction to develop a greater understanding of yoga. We honour your body, your mind and your current limitations and help you to optimize your practice through asana, pranayama and lifestyle advice. Whether you want more strength and flexibility, work on a targeted area, mental clarity, stress reduction, improved posture, or better performance if an athlete, we can tailor a programme to your needs. We provide a non-competitive, compassionate environment to facilitate a deeply personal experience and increased self-awareness. Ideal for new students or more experienced students.

What happens in a session?

We will look at your general physical and mental well-being and make an overall assessment. We will establish your key goals and may include lifestyle recommendations, any modifications, and compassionate feedback to help bring awareness to your practice. You will be guided through an appropriate practice that you can then take home in the form of a written copy so you can practice in a time and space that is suitable for you.

 

How many sessions will I need?

Students who typically attend yoga classes regularly may seek just one or two sessions to address a specific issue (for example: shoulder discomfort in Chaturanga) or for guidance in a more challenging posture, or refinement in postures. Other students may wish to have ongoing once per week sessions if they are new to practice or usually practice at home. It is essential that you are aware that your practice will change over time, naturally as you also change yourself physically and mentally. It is good to receive the benefits of a private session from time to time to check-in with your current needs.

A session may include:

  • Work on specific goals physical, mental and emotional
  • Improve alignment for your body type and avoid injury
  • Increase physical function through correct movement patterns
  • Modify and adapt your practice with proper techniques
  • Posture correction and better breathing
  • Focus on a specific challenging pose or area of the body

  • Integrate yoga into daily life practices
  • Enhance other activities or sports you may be doing

How is Private Yoga different from Yoga Therapy?

Private Yoga is a personal session for those of general health and fitness to for the purpose of experiencing yoga, to address any issues or questions related to practice and essentially deepen the practice. Yoga Therapy relates to those with specific health conditions that need specific techniques and a more specialized approach to bring out the therapeutic effect.
